Effects of sintering temperatures on the microstructure and mechanical properties of S390 powder metallurgy high-speed steel

High-performance complex gear cutters and high-temperature bearings are just some of the applications where high-speed steels (HSSs) shine as a preferred material choice owing to their high hardness outstanding wear resistance. In this work, effects sintering temperature on microstructure mechanical properties S390 HSS prepared via spark plasma (SPS) were investigated with range temperatures from 930°C 1,090°C, uniaxial pressure 50 MPa, holding time 5 min. The results demonstrated that improvements in density, hardness, red three-point bending strength confirmed increased 1,090°C. Temperature-induced evolutions assessed for contribution property enhancement, such powders varying dimensions carbides diverse morphology diameter. specimen best comprehensive (67.1 HRC 1,196.67 MPa) was at 1,050°C SPS. coefficients decreased increased, observation worn surfaces test pins abrasive oxidation dominated experiments. Furthermore, mechanism dense porous SPS illustrated analyzed terms debris trapped carbides.
